In 2016, 532.9 TWh of natural gas were traded on the CEGH-VTP, run by Central European Gas Hub AG (CEGH). At the Gas Exchange the traded volume increased by 23% to 32.5 TWh, compared to the previous year. The migration of the CEGH Gas Exchange spot and futures contracts to the pan-European PEGAS was successfully implemented on 1 December 2016.
CEGH OTC Market:
532.9 TWh of natural gas were nominated at the CEGH-Virtual Trading Point (VTP) in 2016, an increase of 11% compared to 2015. With a volume of 54.8 TWh in December 2016, a new monthly all-time high was reached in the history of CEGH, and on 16 December the nominated volume reached 2.04 TWh, the highest daily volume ever.
The average churn rate at CEGH amounted to 3.23 in 2016. The churn rate is a measure of liquidity and indicates how often one cubic metre of natural gas is traded before it is finally transferred also physically.
By end of 2016 CEGH had 184 registered members, 20% of them are Austrian companies.
On 1 December 2016, Central European Gas Hub AG (CEGH) and Powernext SA have successfully migrated the CEGH Gas Exchange spot and futures contracts to the pan-European PEGAS platform operated under the Powernext rulebook. Spread products with TTF, NCG, GASPOOL and PSV are now tradable, as well as Trade Registration services for PEGAS CEGH futures products.
In December 2016 the monthly traded volumes at the PEGAS CEGH Gas Market reached with 3.8 TWh a new monthly all-time high in the history of Exchange traded volumes in Austria. In 2016 32.5 TWh were traded in total at the Gas Exchange with delivery at the Austrian CEGH-VTP, an increase of 23% compared to 2015.
The Spot Market recorded a volume of 24.7 TWh of natural gas traded in 2016, with a monthly all-time-high in October of 2.8 TWh.
Volumes at the Futures Market in 2016 increased by 121% compared to the previous year to a total volume of 7.76 TWh.
The CEGHIX, the daily CEGH reference price, started in 2016 with EUR 15.795.-/MWh, and reached EUR 19.550.-/MWh on the last trading day in 2016, which also was the highest price at the Day Ahead Market in 2016. The lowest price was on 11 April 2016 with EUR 11.971.-/MWh. The CEGHIX is the CEGH Spot Price Index determined daily based on all trades at the CEGH Gas Exchange Spot Market per day.
CEGH Czech Gas Exchange:
Total traded volumes at the CEGH Czech Gas Exchange powered by PXE (POWER EXCHANGE CENTRAL EUROPE) reached 3.11 TWh in 2016, thereof 1.536 TWh on the spot market and 1.575 TWh at the Futures Market.
